![]() The black and white old noir style gives it that extra edge to an already creepy little world where the game takes place. The game just feels like it could have gone on a little while longer. Even with the Complete Edition with its extra DLC. Darq is a fun little puzzle game and I say little because the only downside is that the game is extremely short. Its puzzles can be a little frustrating as there is a lot of backtracking and while there is a couple of jumps scares that you don’t expect you just seem to get used to them. Apart from gravity-defying physics, you will also have to rely on stealth to get around the numerous enemies at a level as you have no chance of defending yourself. The gameplay is so unique and the physics it’s based around is just mind-blowing.Įach level starts off quite easy but as the game progresses it gets really hard and will take some serious thinking and trial and error. It throws you right into it with no tutorial and with basically no idea on what the hell is going on. Right of the bat, this game doesn’t mess around. You take control of a little sleepy hero called Lloyd who keeps falling asleep and can’t wake up as every attempt only puts him back into the dream world. As usual, if you enjoy this review Darq review then my not check out my previous one here. So let us take a wild ride into a dreamscape world and see if it’s as good as we are led to believe. Darq straight away gave me the fear of dread but it surprisingly caught me off guard. Darq: Complete Edition – A Dream World To Give Freddy Krueger The ShakesĪs someone who is completely useless at puzzle games and I’m not ashamed to admit it. So let’s get started with this Darq review. ![]() Darq is now available across all platforms. Darq is a mind-bending puzzle game that will test even the most veteran puzzle gamers. This includes Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.Developed and published by Untold Games. In addition to this, the developers will also be releasing DARQ on consoles. As with the first, the DLC will be free to play. The scares aren’t as intense as the original game, but provide a solid 30 minutes of puzzle solving.Ī second DLC, The Crypt, is set for release in December. The Tower brings a series of new perspectives and mechanics. ![]() The steam count showed a play-time of just under 4 hours, which is reasonable, but somehow still feels very short.ĭevelopers, Unfold Games, released a free DLC a few months back. My biggest gripe DARQ is that just as you start to get into it, the rug is pulled away and it ends abruptly. This ties everything in the game together. The dark, shadowy halls are filled with patches of scarce light and effects.Īll of which is brought together by the chilling score and sound effects. Having to solve puzzles to time limits, for example, builds some intense moments.īoth the graphics and the sound composition within DARQ are great, too. The element of surprise and contorted body parts is the shocking factor here.Īnd it’s not all jump scares either. The most frightening of these include the figures hidden away or chasing you down. Being a horror/thriller title, DARQ does have a few scares thrown in. It’s not all exploration and puzzles, though. This includes interacting with objects within each room that sometimes allow you to flip rooms, change perspectives, finding obstacles that allow you to power others or just manoeuvring others to active triggers. There is also a mix of puzzles found per chapter, none of which are repeated. These are required to solve specific challenges. The mechanics start off with the basics, including walking up certain walls and, on the ceilings, defying gravity. Each new chapter in DARQ provides a set of new mechanics to assist in solving problems. Once the game mechanics have been learned, it becomes more of an exploration to find puzzles to solve. This wasn’t because it was more difficult than what was to follow, but rather overcoming the learning barrier. I found the first chapter’s puzzles the most challenging. And completing each set of puzzles per chapter is highly satisfying. The puzzles are complicated and require some thought and memory, as they’re not always completed in isolation. These obstacles are presented in a series of puzzles and this is where the game comes to life. It’s up to you to guide Lloyd through the obstacles of this world, filled with – as with any nightmare – horrors, terrors, hidden figures and more. Lloyd goes to bed every night and has a series of nightmarish lucid dreams on repeat. This is what plagues the nights of the lead character, Lloyd. ![]() In fact, there are many out there who are suffer from constant nightmares. While many associate sleep with a time to relax, rejuvenate and unwind, that’s not always the case. DARQ is based on the premise of lucid dreaming.
